A pub owner, Mark Robbie, has criticized three customers who allegedly left without paying for their Sunday lunches. According to Mr. Robbie, the group devoured roast beef and gammon meals and then left without settling the bill. They departed in separate vehicles after finishing their delicious home-cooked meals. The incident took place at the Butchers Arms pub in Audley around 1:54 pm last week.
Mr. Robbie explained that the diners had asked about the payment process and where they should go to settle their bill. However, within a few minutes, they abruptly left without making any payment. The woman in the group paid for the drinks using her phone since one of the men was having trouble with his. Two of them had roast beef, while the other opted for gammon. The man with the German Shepherd left first, followed by the man and woman with the small dog.
The pub staff realized what had happened when the group walked past the door and drove away from the car park. Mr. Robbie tried to contact them by leaving several voicemails but received no response. As a business owner, he expressed his frustration since every penny is crucial in running the pub. He shared the incident on social media to raise awareness.
Mr. Robbie described the incident as theft and compared it to driving away from a petrol station without paying. He mentioned that while it is uncommon for such incidents to occur at his pub, he received messages from other hospitality businesses in the Stoke-on-Trent area reporting similar experiences after his Facebook post.
The pub’s Facebook post expressed gratitude to the three individuals for leaving without paying and sarcastically suggested that they return to settle their bill. The post assured them that their faces, vehicle, and registration number were captured on camera. Staffordshire Police confirmed that the incident was reported, and they are conducting inquiries. They requested anyone with information to come forward and reference incident number 518 of June 21.
