Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been evicted from their UK home, Frogmore Cottage, by King Charles, who offered the property to his embattled brother Prince Andrew. The shocking decision came shortly after Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare revealing his strained relationship with his father and the royal institution.
According to royal commentator Michael Cole, Prince Harry made a desperate plea to King Charles when he learned that he and his family had to vacate their Windsor residence, where they had stayed during their visits to the UK since moving to the US in 2020. Prince Harry reportedly asked his father, “Doesn’t the King want to see his grandchildren?”, referring to his son Archie and daughter Lilibet, who live with him and Meghan in Montecito, California.
However, King Charles was adamant that Prince Harry and Meghan should find another accommodation, as he wanted to give Frogmore Cottage to Prince Andrew, who was facing legal troubles over his alleged involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking scandal. Prince Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles and patronages by King Charles in 2022, was also told to downsize from his Royal Lodge mansion by August 2023.
According to Express, The eviction from Frogmore Cottage has left Prince Harry and Meghan stunned, and at least two members of the royal family “appalled”, according to sources close to the couple. The move has also jeopardized Prince Harry and Meghan’s security arrangements, as Frogmore Cottage was the only place in the UK that met their security needs after they lost their royal police protection in 2020. The couple travel with their own private security team, but they rely on the Metropolitan Police’s Royalty and Specialist Protection Unit for intelligence information and access to the Windsor Estate’s ring of steel.
The eviction from Frogmore Cottage has also thrown Prince Harry and Meghan’s UK reunion into doubt, as another royal commentator, Richard Fitzwilliams, said that while King Charles is keen to see his two grandchildren, he is not sure if Prince Harry will return to the UK anytime soon³. Fitzwilliams also said that Meghan’s “refusal” to step foot in the UK and to allow Prince Harry to take the children there without her was a “sticking point” for King Charles.
King Charles, who loves being a grandfather, has reportedly extended an invite to Prince Harry and Meghan to stay with him at Highgrove, his Gloucestershire estate, so he can get to know Archie and Lilibet better. King Charles also sees them on FaceTime every couple of weeks and is “completely besotted” with them, according to a royal source.
