It’s been almost four years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from the royal family, and people, including MP Bob Seely are calling for them to have their titles stripped. However, one author says doing this will just make them victims.
Since leaving, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle haven’t kept quiet. They released their Netflix documentary, sat down for a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, and the Duke released his tell-all memoir Spare. The royals have never publically responded to any of the claims made, but this bombshell move one MP is calling for would create a feud that could probably never be fixed.
As the debate sweeps Britain, Historian and Author Sir Anthony Seldon asks if removing their titles is worth it. He spoke at length in a segment with Sky News Australia.
He then questions if it’ll be giving “them what they want, because it just makes them more out to be victims of these ‘hateful exploitive people in Buckingham Palace.’”
“Wouldn’t it be better to just let them be forgotten?” he asks.
He then claims by reacting and doing this, it “just makes them into victims” and gives them even more publicity, placing them over the world’s headlines yet again.
The author claims it ‘isn’t the right way to handle it’ as he says the Duke and Duchess are two “very very damaged people
It comes as no surprise that the couple’s popularity has plummeted, and after a bold move from The Hollywood Reporter.
Each year, the publication rounds up its winners and losers. This year’s winners included Taylor Swift and Margot Robbie, but unfortunately, the Sussexes didn’t make the cut.
The savage article says: “After a whiny Netflix documentary, a whiny biography (Spare — even the title is a pouty gripe) and an inert podcast, the Harry and Meghan brand swelled into a sanctimonious bubble just begging to be popped — and South Park was the pin.”
Although, they joke that “all the scorn and mockery” still beats otherwise having to attend ‘200-plus’ royal engagements a year.
However, they’re not the only members of the family who have faced a dip with fans. King Charles‘ popularity has also dipped slightly since he took over the throne from his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
