Prince William is already looking ahead to the future of the monarchy when he becomes King, and he does not envision a role for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, an extremely well-placed royal source has revealed..
According to a report by Express, “William is already planning for when he becomes King, and he doesn’t see a future for the Sussexes in the Royal Family,” the source stated. “The feeling is that allowing the Sussexes back into the fold is a bad move and they should be resigned to the fringes indefinitely.”
Relations between the two brothers have been strained since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Things only worsened after the couple’s explosive Oprah interview in 2021, where they made allegations of racism and lack of support from the royal family.
The source said William has made it clear to his father, King Charles III, that it should be “business as usual” without Harry and Meghan as working royals moving forward.
No Role for Harry and Meghan in Future Monarchy
William has told the King that when he is monarch, there won’t be any place for Harry and Meghan in the slimmed-down monarchy he plans for the future,” the insider revealed. “He understands his father wants to forgive and forget, but William believes there can be no way back for the Sussexes.”
According to the source, William feels the damage done by Harry and Meghan’s repeated public criticism of the royals has gone too far and trusts cannot be rebuilt.
“The trust is gone and William doesn’t think Harry deserves another chance to betray the family again,” they stated. “He understands this will cause pain for their father, but he has to put the future of the institution first.”
Release of ‘Endgame’ Book Deepens Rift
Tensions between the two brothers reached new heights recently following the release of royal reporter Omid Scobie’s new book, “Endgame,” which included claims that two unnamed royals made racist remarks about Archie’s skin color.
The inflammatory allegations and ongoing leaks from Harry’s camp have only hardened William’s resolve about excluding the Sussexes from royal life, sources say.
“All the drama and accusations have just reinforced William’s view that Harry and Meghan are a disruptive force the monarchy is better off without,” an insider stated. “He’s completely adamant they shouldn’t be welcomed back while his father still holds out hope.”
Different Visions for the Future
King Charles is said to believe healing the rift with his younger son would help limit negative media attention on the royals. But William and Harry seem to have fundamentally different visions for what the modern monarchy should represent.
“William is looking ahead to the future of the institution while Harry is stuck in the past rehashing old grievances,” a royal expert assessed. “It’s hard to see how they move forward from this.”
Only time will tell whether the door remains open for Harry and Meghan or if they will be exiled from royal life indefinitely once William takes the throne. But the Prince of Wales’ ruthless plan indicates he is prioritizing the stability of the Crown over family ties.
Public Sympathy Shifting Against Sussexes
There are also signs that public sympathy, once strongly behind Harry and Meghan, is beginning to shift as the constant leaks and accusations wear thin with the British public.
“People are getting bored of Harry and Meghan’s complaints about how they were treated while pocketing millions from media deals,” a veteran royal correspondent observed. “The tide seems to be turning against them while support for William and Kate continues to grow.”
Different Approaches to Royal Duty
At the core, some argue, is a fundamental difference in how William and Harry view royal responsibility.
“William was bred from birth to put duty first no matter what, while Harry has always struggled with that selfless mentality,” a longtime royal aide remarked. “Ultimately it comes down to William devoting himself wholly to the Crown while Harry refuses to accept that commitment.”
Barring an improbable reconciliation, the stage seems set for a future British monarchy led by King William that excludes the renegade Sussexes – and that appears to be precisely how the incoming monarch prefers it.
