Prosecutors have announced that the defendant, Ureka, has been sentenced to life in a state correctional facility without the possibility of parole
This stern sentence comes in response to her horrifying act of throwing her two young children, a 5-year-old and a 10-month-old, off a bridge.
Tragically, a 10-month-old boy named Joshua lost his life in this incident, while her 5-year-old son, Elijah, suffered severe injuries. The 34-year-old mother has been found guilty of both murder and attempted murder.
District Judge Donald has also imposed a 50-year sentence for the attempted murder charge, with both sentences to run concurrently.
During the trial, prosecutors noted that the mother chose not to testify. The harrowing incident occurred on September 24, 2021, when the mother threw her two sons off the bridge.
A 911 caller reported seeing an infant floating face down in the water. Upon arrival, first responders located the 10-month-old baby, who was unresponsive when rescued from the water.
Despite efforts by Emergency Medical Services personnel to revive him, tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The 5-year-old boy was found floating on his back and was also rescued from the water shortly thereafter.
The 5-year-old sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening conditions. Elijah informed investigators that their mother had thrown them off the bridge.
He recounted that his mother had told him he had germs and that the water below the bridge was “good water” before she cast him into it. The mother herself stated to investigators that she had thrown her children into the water with the intention of allowing them to “meet with God.”
