Harvey got really hurt, especially in his head. Inside his head, there was bleeding, which is very serious. He had to stay in the hospital for three whole weeks because of how badly he was hurt. Imagine how scary that must have been for him and his family.
After the accident, Harvey had problems with speaking and remembering things. These problems are called a “speech impediment” and “memory loss.” It means he couldn’t talk well, and he couldn’t remember things like he used to. Doctors say it will take at least two years for him to get better from his injuries, so he has a long road to recovery ahead.
Harvey’s dad, Andrew Aitken, shared how tough this situation has been for their family. He got a phone call at 3 am on that night, and when he heard what happened to his son, he felt very, very sad. He said it’s something every parent is afraid of, imagining their child hurt like that.
The family was really worried about Harvey’s life, and it was very hard for them as a family. Harvey has five brothers and sisters, and they were also really upset when they found out what happened to their brother.
Mr. Aitken is asking for help from anyone who might have seen or heard anything that night. He wants them to tell the police because they need to catch the person who hurt Harvey and left him on the road.
The police are also looking for another car that was behind the one that hit Harvey. This second car stopped for a moment and then drove away. They want to talk to the driver of this second car because they might know something important that can help find the first car and the person who was driving it.
The police are saying, “We need information because a teenager got very hurt in a hit-and-run accident in Birmingham. We want the driver of the first car to come and talk to us about what happened. And we also want the driver of the second car to get in touch because they might have important information that can help us find the car and the person who was driving it.”
