Adopting a pup with unique needs can bring about significant changes for both the pup and the people taking care of them.
In an interesting turn of events, James Coburn stumbled upon an adorable deaf pup named Poundcake on an animal adoption site. However, expanding the family was not on his agenda, and he was not exactly on the lookout for a new furry buddy. James was waving the “no dog” flag pretty hard, citing his busy and active lifestyle as a reason to skip the idea of getting a dog.
In his words to the Dodo, he said, “Our life’s a whirlwind of activity, you know? And I figured getting a dog would just clip our wings, trap us at home, and zap all the fun out of what we enjoy… I just didn’t think I could give ’em the rad life they deserve.”Adopting a pup with unique needs can bring about significant changes for both the pup and the people taking care of them. James Coburn was initially against having a dog, even though his wife Leah had always wanted one. However, when he stumbled upon Poundcake on an adoption website in 2021, he had a change of heart. Despite not discussing it with Leah, he completed the adoption application that same evening, and the rest is history.
It took some time for Poundcake to adjust to his new home, but with the tender love and care of his new puppy parents, he eventually settled in. He quickly became best friends with the neighbor’s dog, Dunkin. Unfortunately, when Dunkin’s family moved away, Poundcake experienced a bout of depression. Although playdates with other dogs were arranged, it just wasn’t the same.
To help him overcome his sadness, Poundcake’s parents decided to adopt another deaf dog named Milkshake. Although Milkshake had a difficult past, she eventually settled in and became best friends with Poundcake. The Coburns take the two dogs on many adventures, and they fit well into an active lifestyle.
