Meghan Markle, in her now-defunct blog The Tig, shared some surprising reflections on Prince William and Princess Kate’s wedding long before she entered the royal fold.
As reported by the Mirror, during the buzz surrounding the nuptials of Prince William and Princess Kate in 2011, Meghan, then an aspiring actress and blogger, couldn’t help but comment on the fascination with the royal spectacle. In her blog post, Meghan referenced the “pomp” surrounding the event and the “endless conversation about Princess Kate.” Reflecting on the enduring fascination with princesses, Meghan noted the enduring appeal of fictional characters like She-Ra, Princess of Power, drawing parallels between the childhood fantasy and the real-life royal wedding.
Little did Meghan know at the time that her life would take a dramatic turn, and seven years later, she would find herself marrying into the Royal Family. In her revealing interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Meghan admitted that she entered the royal fold with naivety when she started dating Prince Harry in 2016. The couple eventually tied the knot in a grand ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19, 2018.
During the candid interview, Meghan confessed that she had limited knowledge of the royal family while growing up, acknowledging that it wasn’t a topic of conversation in her household. She revealed that she didn’t fully grasp the extent of the responsibilities that came with joining the royal family, admitting to feeling unprepared for the role. Meghan recounted the need to quickly learn royal protocols, including perfecting the art of curtsying, before meeting Queen Elizabeth II for the first time at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Meanwhile, Princess Kate found herself in the spotlight recently when she issued a public apology for digitally altering a photo of herself and her children released to mark Mother’s Day. The image, captured by Prince William, was the first to be issued since the princess underwent surgery, sparking unwarranted speculation about her health on social media platforms.
In the midst of the public attention, the Princess of Wales, who serves as the Colonel of a regiment, was notably absent from the St Patrick’s Day festivities as she continues to recuperate from abdominal surgery. It was announced that she would refrain from public duties until after Easter, disrupting the annual tradition where both she and William typically visit the Irish Guards at Mons Barracks in Aldershot to present them with shamrocks.
In her absence, Lady Ghika, the wife of the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel, took on the duty of distributing shamrocks to the Irish Guards, marking a departure from the usual royal presence at the event.
