Prince William admitting he has tried to protect his brother Harry amid their royal ‘feud’ has gone viral after the Duke of Sussex’s fleeting visit to the UK.
The 39-year-old jumped on a plane to be at his father’s side after hearing King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer. The news of King Charles‘ health scare was announced Monday via the palace, and the dad-of-two didn’t hesitate to leave California to make the long trip to Britain.
However, some trolls thought he spent little time with his father after the big gesture. It’s claimed Prince Harry only spent ’45 minutes’ with Charles and Camilla before they had planned to travel to Sandringham. The Duke then traveled back to the airport the next day, apparently spending 25 hours on his home turf. After the attention of him visiting his dad, Prince William‘s quote about ‘protecting’ Harry has now gone viral with fans.
The confession in question is from Prince William, who spoke about his relationship with Harry with ITV’s Tom Bradby in 2020.
It came after Harry and Meghan Markle left The Firm as working royals and found a new home across the Atlantic. After spending some time in Canada, and at friend and billionaire Tyler Perry‘s home, they came across their forever home in their Montecito mansion in LA.
However, it was a tough time for the royal family, for all those involved. The Sussexes later said they needed to leave for their mental health, and alleged Meghan’s treatment online and on social media was a huge factor. The couple, who share Archie and Lilibet, have shared concerns over privacy and security multiple times.
For others in the palace, it was part of a rift that saw the brothers drift apart over several months. The younger brother even spoke of arguments between them in his book Spare.
The Sunday Times reported at the time, Prince William felt he couldn’t help his brother Harry anymore, as their feud and then leaving the palace was as far as it could go.
He said: “I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that any more – we’re separate entities.
“I’m sad about that. All we can do, and all I can do, is try and support them and hope that the time comes when we’re all singing from the same page. I want everyone to play on the same team.”
Now, that quote has gone viral again on TikTok after Harry came back to the UK this week.
The heartbreaking confession came after Harry himself spoke of the brothers growing apart. In an ITV documentary the November before (2019), he spoke of them going down “different paths”.
The late Queen Elizabeth II held a ‘crisis meeting’ at Sandringham days after the Sussexes announced they were stepping down.
The then Prince Charles, Queen, William and Harry reportedly met face-to-face to discuss the logistics of the couple moving away. At the time, they wanted to split their time between America and the UK and eventually become “financially independent”.
Later, sources claimed the Queen told them they couldn’t be ‘half in, half out’ and would have to choose. They are now no longer working royals and support themselves financially. Meghan and Harry have seen done an interview with Oprah Winfrey, a Netflix docuseries, a Spotify podcast and the Duke released a memoir.
