“Illegal Migrants to Be Deported the Same Day They Arrive in the UK – You Won’t Believe Why, Says MP Lee”

Reform UK MP Lee Anderson has criticized Labour’s approach to Channel crossings, calling for tougher measures to stop migrant boats after a spike in arrivals over Christmas.

Speaking to GB News, Anderson said, “I’m fed up. Over Christmas, 1,500 illegal migrants, mostly young men, came into this country. It’s sickening.”

He argued that boats should be sent back to France on the same day they cross, adding, “We’ve seen this work before. A few months ago, a boat was turned back to France the same day.”

Recent data shows a 25% increase in Channel crossings in 2024, with 36,816 people making the journey compared to 29,437 in 2023. Anderson dismissed Labour’s efforts to combat people smuggling, calling them “nonsense.” He criticized their focus on arresting boat suppliers and accused them of simply putting migrants in hotels.

The Home Office has announced plans to monitor migrant boats using spy satellites to address the issue. Anderson, however, insisted that immediate action—turning boats back—is the only solution.

“Nobody cares what the French think. Turn these men back, and they’ll stop coming,” he said. He also reiterated Reform UK’s call to leave the European Convention on Human Rights, a stance frequently emphasized by Deputy Leader Richard Tice.

Anderson concluded, “The only way to stop them is by deterrence—send them back the same day.”

2024 has been the deadliest year for Channel crossings, with 53 lives lost during attempts to reach the UK.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper acknowledged the Government’s responsibility to address the issue but avoided committing to a deadline for reducing numbers. She emphasized the importance of targeting criminal gangs while ruling out new legal routes for asylum seekers.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has focused on working with European law enforcement agencies as part of his strategy to tackle the crossings. The National Crime Agency is currently investigating around 70 cases of immigration crime and human trafficking.
