An asylum seeker named Esayas Neguse was sentenced to 11 years in prison for attempting to murder his lawyer, Muhammad Shoaib, at his Glasgow office.
The incident occurred in September 2022 when Neguse, who had arrived unannounced, attacked Shoaib with a kitchen knife during a meeting.
CCTV footage revealed that Neguse appeared agitated and kept his hand in his pocket before launching the violent attack.
Despite the severity of his injuries, Shoaib survived, thanks to the brave intervention of his colleagues who tackled Neguse and prevented further harm until the police arrived.
Shoaib later shared that he feared for his life during the attack, describing the blood pouring from his chest as “like a shower.”
Neguse, who had been in the UK for five years as an asylum seeker from Eritrea, expressed discomfort during the meeting, which quickly escalated into the stabbing incident. He was later convicted of attempted murder after changing his plea to guilty during the trials.
