A high-stakes manhunt is underway after two suitcases containing human remains were discovered at the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol!
Authorities were alerted when a man with a suitcase was spotted acting suspiciously on the bridge just before midnight on Wednesday. Police arrived swiftly, but the man had vanished, leaving the suitcase behind. Shortly after, another suitcase was found nearby.
Avon and Somerset Police have declared their “immediate priority” to find the man and identify the human remains. Early investigations revealed that the suspect arrived at the bridge in a taxi, which has since been seized, and the driver is now assisting the police.
A significant police presence has locked down the area. A white tent and cordons have been set up, and roads on both sides of the bridge, as well as nearby footpaths, remain closed while investigators meticulously search the scene. The police helicopter was seen circling the bridge on Wednesday night, intensifying the search efforts.
Describing this shocking event, Acting Bristol Commander Vicks Hayward-Melen stated, “Our immediate priority is to locate the man who brought the suitcases to the bridge, identify the deceased, and notify their next of kin. Specialist officers are ready to provide all necessary support.”
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for later today to uncover more details.
