Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not invited to this year’s Trooping the Colour celebration, which happens every June to celebrate the monarchy. Harry and Meghan have a strained relationship with the royal family, although Harry is trying to mend things with his father. A source close to the Sussexes said Harry felt “heartbroken” after this year’s event and was “upset” and “emotional” when he saw footage of Kate Middleton’s first public appearance in months.
Harry and Meghan last attended Trooping the Colour in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. Since then, they either weren’t invited or chose not to attend. This year was especially hard for Harry because of Kate Middleton’s appearance. Harry and Kate used to be very close, like siblings, but have grown apart. Seeing her at the event reportedly made Harry upset for a couple of reasons.
A source told Closer Magazine UK, “It was very painful for Harry to see his family gathered for Trooping the Colour without him. He’s heartbroken and confused about being cut off by them.” Seeing Kate Middleton after months also made Harry very emotional. “Harry was very upset when he saw footage of Kate at Trooping the Colour,” the source said. “He’s been worried about her health and has only been able to connect with her a few times, which isn’t enough for him.”
It’s understandable that Harry feels sad seeing his family together without him. They used to be close, but things have changed in recent years. Despite chances to reconcile, they haven’t, making it doubtful that Harry will be close with his father and brother again.
People thought Queen Elizabeth II’s death might bring them closer, but it didn’t. King Charles’ cancer diagnosis was another chance for reconciliation, but it didn’t happen. When Kate revealed she was sick, it was another opportunity that didn’t result in reconnecting. It’s uncertain if Harry and Meghan will ever spend much time with Harry’s family again.
