It’s been suggested that King Charles’ revised vision for the royal family will continue with a more refined approach from Prince William after Megxit.
The British Royal family has befallen tragedy and jarring shake-ups in recent years. Queen Elizabeth II passed in September 2022 and King Charles acceded to the throne. A couple of years previous, the public was surprised to learn Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were moving to California, with Harry giving up his military titles. Prince William is the heir to his father’s throne, and looking into the family’s future, tradition may take a backseat in favor of a more selective approach going forward.
King Charles is keeping the number of working royal family members minimal and royal writer Daniela Elser over at News.com reports that William isn’t likely to change things in the future, even when it comes to his own children.
She acknowledges that Riched Eden at the Mail spoke with one of William’s friends about the potential to shift the dynamic of the family’s workforce from its current state.
“When the older members of the family retire, [William] won’t be inviting anyone else to become working royals,” they claimed. “It remains to be seen if he will even want his two younger children to be working royals.
Daniela adds that this has essentially been reinforced by Tom Sykes over at The Daily Beast, who was told by a source: “The option isn’t there for George, of course, but the children have been kept at arm’s length from royal life. They are exposed to the minimum possible publicity, and that is a deliberate strategy to let Charlotte and Louis choose their own destiny.”
Not only is this significant, but she notes this approach has reportedly been influenced by the “trauma” experienced by the family in the aftermath of Harry and Meghan’s departure from the UK. Their leave was followed by a tell-all Oprah interview in which their royal life was discussed with transparency, and similarly, Harry published his revealing memoir Spare in January 2023, which led to John Lennon’s son calling him a buffoon.
On the subject of Prince George, he is second in line to the throne, after his father, which is why the option isn’t there. Meanwhile, it’s suggested that his siblings may acceptably decide to pursue careers beyond the duties of the royal family.
News.com continued to relay what the source told Tom at the Beast, elaborating on how William allegedly feels about his brother and his wife’s stepback.
“Although he absolutely puts the blame on Meghan and Harry, he does of course also appreciate that the whole system, where one of your kids is less important than the other due to an accident of birth, had a massive part to play in what happened and how it happened,” William’s friend said.
When speaking to Tom, he addressed William’s reluctance to place his children in any situation that will cause them upset and distress.
“He and Catherine adore the children,” he underlined, “and their whole lives are about the children.” This has led to them seeking out a solution that will result in the family flourishing as a whole with its individual members still happy in their own choices.
