According to an insider report, Princess Kate has been leaning on her brother-in-law Prince Harry for support as she privately battles cancer, going behind her husband Prince William and his wife Meghan Markle’s backs. As reported by Life & Style Magazine, a source claims Kate and Harry have maintained a “special bond” despite the rift between the Sussexes and Waleses in recent years.
“Everyone assumes Kate doesn’t like Harry, but they have a special bond that not many people really understand. She and Harry were extremely close at one time. She’s confided in him during some of her darkest moments, and now that includes her cancer battle,” the unnamed insider told the tabloid, Reported Express.
Kate, 43, revealed in a video message on March 22 that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy treatment following abdominal surgery in January. Her announcement came after weeks of speculation and conspiracy theories surrounding her absence from public duties.
In the wake of Kate’s health revelation, Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, issued a statement wishing her “health and healing” and hoping she could recover “privately and in peace.” However, the insider alleges Kate had already reached out to Harry behind William and Meghan’s backs.
“Meghan was blindsided and felt, maybe, a bit betrayed at first,” the source claimed to Life & Style. “But the gravity of Kate’s prognosis has allowed Meghan to put aside, at least for now, the mutual animosity and disappointment the Waleses and Sussexes have felt for one another.”
The informant stated that while Meghan was not around when Kate and Harry’s friendship first blossomed over 20 years ago, she recognizes Harry “used to respect and admire Kate” before their relationship soured, as revealed in his memoir Spare.
In the bombshell book, Harry laid bare the strained ties between the brothers and included accusations of racial bias against Meghan from the royal family, according to CNN. The source claimed William allegedly still has “trust issues” with his younger brother but would not interfere if talking to Harry helps Kate cope with her illness, especially with their father King Charles III, 75, also battling cancer.
“While Kate loves William and she does confide in her husband, it’s easier to talk about certain things with Harry. He’s always been a good listener,” the tipster told Life & Style.
The insider believes the recent calls between Kate and Harry could signal hope for a reunion between the two couples, whose once-close bonds have become “collateral damage” amid the escalating feud stemming from Harry and Meghan’s exit as working royals.
In Spare, Harry recounted clashes with Kate, alleging she made Meghan cry over a bridesmaid dress fitting and overreacted when Meghan joked about her having “baby brain.” However, he also expressed deep affection, writing “I loved my new sister-in-law” when William married Kate.
“There were many incidents, before and after Meghan came into the picture, where Kate played peacemaker for the brothers,” the source noted, adding that while the couples have not “put the past behind them just yet,” there is now “promise” of reconciliation for the first time in a long while.
Harry’s recent solo trip to London for the Invictus Games could have served as a “practice run,” though no royal reunion occurred as senior royals did not attend the event he founded for injured troops.
“Harry hopes his chats with Kate may signify a bigger thaw, he is not anticipating anything more for the time being,” the insider stated.
