As the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate have always been viewed as the reliable face of the British royal family, carrying out engagements across the country and Commonwealth with grace and dedication. However, recent events have tested the couple
Last week, it was revealed that Kate has been suffering from acute morning sickness in the early stages of her fourth pregnancy. Recalling the difficult pregnancies she endured previously with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, William has been focused on providing support and care while his wife recovers behind palace doors, GB news reported.
“William is being very protective and drawing his most trusted family members close at this time,” said a palace aide. “He wants to ensure Kate has time to rest and regain her strength.”
William has continued attending engagements, including yesterday’s visit to a veteran’s charity in Liverpool. However, he has reduced additional duties to be present for George, Charlotte and Louis in Kate’s absence.
“He is being both mum and dad right now,” the aide commented. “The children are missing Kate as well, so he is keeping their schedules light and making more time for games, reading and family meals.”
In contrast to the Cambridge’s tightening inner circle, the rift between William and his brother Prince Harry seems to be growing wider in recent weeks.
Harry and his wife Meghan moved away from royal duties over two years ago and currently reside in California. Sources say the brothers have barely spoken since Harry’s memoir, Spare, was published in January with many details about private royal moments and accusations against the Prince of Wales.
“William is very hurt and angry at the betrayal of trust by his own brother,” said veteran royal correspondent Phil Dampier. “The things Harry has revealed, like private conversations with William and his mental health struggles, are seen as crossing a line.”
The Sussexes are set to return to the UK in the coming months for the first time since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral last September. However, few expect a warm reunion behind the scenes.
“Harry and Meghan are occupying a different world from William and Kate now,” Dampier continued. “I fear the damage may be too deep for the brothers to ever regain the close bond they once shared.”
As senior working members of the royal family, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ focus remains on duty and public service. But during this difficult period, their priority is each other and their young family.
“William’s central concern is being there for Kate and the children,” the palace aide affirmed. “He will worry about mending fences with Harry later. Family first.”
