Harry and Meghan lose their royal titles and patronages as King Charles seals their fate

King Charles recently declared that he has removed the royal titles and patronages from his son, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle.

This means they are no longer part of the royal family. King Charles, who became king after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing earlier this year, mentioned that he took this step because Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not respond to his numerous efforts to reconcile with them.

As per a palace statement, King Charles expressed profound sadness at the couple’s perceived lack of respect and gratitude towards the royal institution and the British people who have supported them.

Despite the king’s hope for their return to the UK and resuming royal duties, the couple made it clear they had no intention of doing so. King Charles stated that he felt compelled to take drastic action to safeguard the monarchy’s integrity and reputation.

As reported by Express, the king has removed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Earl and Countess of Dumbarton, and Baron and Baroness Kilkeel. Their honorary military appointments and patronages of various charities have also been revoked.

These titles and roles will be redistributed among other royal family members dedicated to serving the nation and the Commonwealth. Additionally, the couple will no longer receive financial support from the royal family and are required to repay the £2.4 million spent on renovating their former home, Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor.

The announcement made it clear that King Charles’s decision was final and immediate – there’s no going back. The king expressed good wishes for Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in their future pursuits. However, the key point is that they are no longer considered part of the royal family.

The decision had solid backing from important figures like King Charles’s wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, his eldest son, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and daughter-in-law, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, as well as other senior members of the royal family. This wasn’t just a solo ruling; it had significant support.

The king personally called his son and daughter-in-law to break the news. Interestingly, during this conversation, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle didn’t express any regret or sorrow about what had transpired. The statement made it clear that the king’s decision wasn’t taken lightly and was based on what he saw as necessary for the integrity and reputation of the monarchy.

The statement pointed out that King Charles’s decision stemmed from recent interviews and publications by the couple. In these, they openly criticized the royal family, alleging racism and mistreatment by some members. The king expressed being “appalled” by what he called “false and damaging” allegations, causing significant distress to the family and the public.

Despite attempts by the king to address the issues privately through calls and letters, the couple reportedly ignored these efforts. The king felt the need to take decisive action due to what the statement described as the couple’s “disloyal and disrespectful” conduct. This included entering into lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify, starting their own foundation and website, and writing memoirs without consulting or informing the palace.

The statement underlined the king’s perception that the couple had “betrayed” the royal family and the core values they represent. It went further, suggesting that the couple had “abused” their privileges and influence for personal gain, adding another layer to the reasoning behind the decision.
