Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their swift exit from the royal family in 2020. It’s no secret Prince William, or the rest of the family, were best pleased about Harry and Meghan leaving The Firm. Now, Omid Scobie’s new bombshell book, Endgame, goes further into what’s claimed to have happened behind closed doors.
Since leaving the royals, the Sussexes haven’t stayed quiet. They released their ‘tell-all’ Netflix documentary last year, and Prince Harry came out with his memoir Spare just a month later. They’ve not had the best things to say about the rest of the family, and it looks like Prince William was one step ahead after Harry and Meghan leaving. Or so, he hoped.
When the dreaded day of January 8, 2020 arrived, and Harry and Meghan Markle officially announced their departure, author Omid Scobie claims William “took action”.
A Kensington Palace aid, who left the royal household, reportedly told the author: “He had conversations with a few in his team about getting ahead of what he felt would soon be Harry blaming them all for not doing enough [to support himself and Meghan].”
However, it is claimed palace officials told the Prince of Wales to “bite his tongue” and wait until he could join King Charles and Queen Elizabeth II for a private sit down with his younger brother, scheduled for a few days in advance.
A few days later, a piece came out in The Sunday Times, claiming Wills had said: “‘I’ve put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can’t do that anymore; we’re separate entities. I’m sad about that.”
“All we can do, and all I can do, is try and support them and hope that the time comes when we’re all singing from the same page,” he continued.
William was ‘ready to fight’
The Duke of Sussex opened up about a meeting with his father and brother two years later, in his memoir Spare, which he claimed happened after Prince Phillips’s funeral. The 39-year-old claimed the meeting was to try and ‘make amends’, sort things out, and speak about their fighting.
Although, he claimed Charles and William had come “ready to fight”.
“Willy in particular didn’t want to hear anything,” the Duke expressed. “After he shut me down several times, he and I began sniping saying some of the same things we’d said for months – years.”
He claims it got so heated, his father had to raise his hands, shouting: “Enough!”
Prince Harry’s Spare came out in January 2023, the royals, no individual or Buckingham Palace, have responded to any claims from the book.
The Sussexes haven’t spent a Christmas with the rest of the family since 2018, and it looks like they’re about to make it the fifth year in a row.
The couple will be spending the holidays in their Montecito mansion, sources tell Us Weekly. They’ll be spending quality family time with their children, Archie and Lilibet, as well as Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland.
“They’ll be cooking, playing games, and swapping gifts,” says the source. “They have a tough time trying not to spoil the kids too much!”
Recently, Meghan revealed little Archie wouldn’t be getting the camera he wants, but we’re sure he’ll be in for many surprises under the tree.
