Prince William and Kate Middleton are usually prime examples of perfect royal conduct, but it seems as though Omid Scobie’s bombshell book Endgame might be getting in their heads. At the Royal Variety performance on Nov. 30th, the royal pair were supposed to be hosting the Prince and Princess of Sweden, but by the looks of a now-viral video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, they didn’t do a very good job. In the video, William and Kate have their backs to the Swedish royal couple as they engage with dignitaries, leaving the Swedes in quite the awkward position.
The Royal Variety Performance is an annual variety show held in London to raise money for the Royal Variety Charity. It’s always attended by senior members of the royal family, and while Kate and William did attend (and did look quite fabulous), they’re facing a lot of backlash for their behavior. In the video that’s been posted to X, Kate and William are having a conversation with two dignitaries a bit off to the side from the main event. Their backs are very clearly to Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden, who stand behind them looking like they’re not quite sure what to do. The Prince and Princess of Wales make no effort to include them in their conversation, and don’t even appear to know that they’re there.
User @LeKaterina posted this clip to X, and it’s already been viewed 331.5K times and liked 1.3K times. She captioned the video, “That’s how you host foreign royals in your country: by standing aside, with backs turned, completely ignoring their presence. And, of course, make sure you speak and go first because you are more important.”
“Poor Victoria didn’t even know what to do, let alone her husband,” she wrote. And many X users agreed with her, and posted their own replies slamming William and Kate.
