Piers Morgan, the host of TalkTV’s Breakfast with Piers, has claimed to have revealed the names of two senior members of the Royal Family who allegedly made racist comments about the skin colour of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son Archie.
Morgan, who is a vocal critic of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, took to X on Monday to name the two royals, who he said were accidentally exposed in the Dutch translation of Omid Scobie’s new book Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival.
Morgan wrote: “No surprise to see Meghan & Harry’s fawning lickspittle @scobie trying his best to smear Prince William with more fake racism claims. Disgusting, but no surprise. He and his Sussex idols are hell-bent on destroying the Royal Family’s reputation.”
He then added: “The two royals who allegedly made racist remarks about Archie’s skin colour are Prince Charles & Princess Anne, according to the Dutch version of @scobie’s book. This is a very serious allegation that should be either confirmed or denied by the Palace.”
Morgan’s tweets have sparked a fresh controversy and outrage, as the names of the alleged racists were redacted in the English version of the book, and were supposed to be kept secret. Scobie, who is a royal journalist and a supporter of Harry and Meghan, has denied naming the royals in his book, and said that the Dutch version was published with a translation error that was quickly corrected.
According to a report by The sun, Scobie also accused Morgan of spreading lies and defamation, and said that the names he was spreading were not in the book and that he was defaming innocent people. He said that the Dutch version of Endgame was not leaked, and that he was prevented by the UK laws from reporting who the royals were.
The scandal stems from the bombshell allegation that Harry and Meghan made during their interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, when they claimed that a member of the Royal Family had expressed concerns about how dark Archie’s skin would be before he was born³. Harry refused to elaborate more on the matter, but said that it was not his grandparents, King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
The Royal Family has not commented on the claims made in Scobie’s book, but they have previously denied the accusations of racism. In a statement issued after Harry and Meghan’s interview, Buckingham Palace said that the issues raised were “concerning” and that they would be “addressed by the family privately”. The statement also said that “some recollections may vary” and that “the whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan”.
