A rumour about Prince Harry allegedly spread by a friend of the Royal Family is not true, according to author Omid Scobie. The claim that Prince Harry has “an escape place” to get away from Meghan has been debunked in Scobie’s new bombshell book “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival.”
According to a report by Express, a new report emerged in May claiming that Prince Harry allegedly has a room at the San Vicente Bungalows “set aside” for him to get away from his wife Meghan Markle, 41, and kids Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 1. A royal source allegedly told the outlet that the Duke stayed at the room, which is a two-hour drive from his Montecito home, as “an escape place.”
The reports appeared after the couple celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary but chose not to post any photos of the event online. Omid Scobie, author of Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, said the “rumor being spread by a friend of the Royal Family” is not true. In his new book, he wrote: “I know a lot of people that know them (Harry and Meghan), that are in their world, or their space, and I’ve just never come across anything of the sort.”
He added that the couple have a “massive guesthouse” at their disposal on their property. “If you wanted to spend a night away, you don’t have to go as far as some janky hotel in Montecito town centre,” Scobie said. Following the claim, Harry’s rep released a four-word statement at the time denying it. The representative simply told Page Six: “That is not true.”
In Scobie’s new book, he has made several claims including Harry’s apparent attempt to reconcile with his brother, Prince William, which “got nowhere.” The author quotes a royal source saying both Charles and William are still struggling to come to terms with Harry and Meghan’s exit. “Disappointed by Harry’s life choices, William considers his brother an outsider, especially since the publication of Spare. Because the book not only provides new details on the choice of the Sussexes – taking a step back from their royal function – it gives details on the role that William played in this choice,” Scobie wrote.
The heir no longer ‘needs’ a substitute, the source suggested. Scobie also claimed “both the institution and the family” were still struggling to “come to grips with [the] fact” that Harry and Meghan have found success in their endeavors after leaving the UK. The Sussexes made a dramatic exit from royal life in January 2020 and are now living in California with their two young children.
Since leaving, they have signed lucrative deals with the likes of Netflix and Spotify thought to be worth well over $100 million. “I’ve watched Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace repeatedly get worried about being upstaged and derailed by the couple, only to have it happen again and again,” Scobie wrote.
Meanwhile, a friend of Harry’s claimed the royal reached out to Charles to wish the family a Merry Christmas in 2022 after his father refused to make the first move. “It was an awkward conversation, but he knew if he didn’t make those first steps, there would never be any progress,” the pal explained of Harry’s decision to reach out to his father.
“There were no raised voices, no arguments … but the King was cold and brief rather than open to any proper dialogue.” Elsewhere in the book, Scobie alleged “both the institution and the family” were still struggling to “come to grips with [the] fact” that Harry and Meghan have found success in their endeavors after leaving the UK.
The couple, who reside in Montecito, Calif., are also parents to Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2. In Scobie’s new book “Endgame,” he reveals the surprising nickname King Charles gave his son Prince Harry after he signed his Netflix deal, leaving His Majesty furious. “At the Palace, heads were in hands and migraines were brewing,” the author writes, adding that Charles was outraged that Harry would “divulge details of family feuds”.
This deal was the turning point for Charles, who had previously discouraged people from speaking about Harry and Meghan. “(The show) took the wind out of everyone’s sails,” an aide told Scobie. “(He) went from not wanting anyone to talk about his son to openly criticising ‘that fool.'” Omid also claims Charles resented Harry’s popularity with the media and that the King turned a blind eye to his son’s attempts to reconcile.
King Charles was allegedly fuming when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell Netflix docuseries dominated headlines in December 2022. “[The show] took the wind out of everyone’s sails,” a source told journalist Omid Scobie for his latest book, “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival.”
In an advance copy obtained, the insider added that Charles was “doing his damnedest best” to get positive media attention after ascending the throne following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022. However, according to the source, “no one [was] watching” thanks to the Sussexes’ highly publicized Netflix release, “Harry & Meghan.”
In his frustration, Charles “went from not wanting anyone to talk about his son to openly criticizing ‘that fool,’” another royal insider alleged. “The King was genuinely sad about the entire situation,” the source told Scobie three months after the series premiered. Scobie — whose forthcoming book highlights a handful of secrets from the lives of the UK (and Montecito) royals — also wrote that the docuseries “eclipsed” Charles “at every turn.”
It has been heavily reported that Charles and his youngest son, 39, haven’t been on the best of terms since Harry and Markle resigned from their royal duties in 2020. Of course, the couple’s Netflix deal followed by the Duke of Sussex’s scathing memoir, “Spare,” didn’t help mend any wounds between the father-son duo.
In spite of the tell-all interviews, both Charles and Harry are reportedly trying to repair their relationship. According to the Telegraph, Harry and Markle — who share son Archie, 4, and daughter Lilibet, 2 — hopped on a call with Charles earlier this month to wish him a happy 75th birthday. They even sent a video of their children singing “Happy Birthday,” per the outlet.
