Prince Harry’s hopes of returning to the UK may hit a roadblock as his wife Meghan Markle has reportedly ruled out ever coming back.
According to royal author Omid Scobie, Meghan “never wants to set foot in England again” and “never felt at home” in the country.
According to a report by Express, Scobie claims in his new book “Endgame” that Meghan refused to travel to London for King Charles III’s coronation in May. “She refuses to dive back into the soap opera of the court,” Scobie wrote.
The couple moved to California in 2020 after stepping back from royal duties. While Harry is said to be keen on repairing relations with the royal family, Meghan has drawn a line under her time in the UK.
A source told The Times that Harry and Meghan would likely accept an invitation from Charles to spend Christmas at Sandringham. However, Scobie insists Meghan will not return, despite keeping the King updated on her family life by sending photos of Archie and Lilibet.
Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the royals has been tense since Megxit. Racism allegations during their Oprah interview further soured relations.
Harry has expressed hope his family will understand Meghan’s struggles. However, Scobie claims “he has accepted the idea that it would perhaps never change.”
Extracts from “Endgame” in French magazine Paris Match quote Harry saying: “I’m ready to forget. Get an apology or explanation? At this point, who cares, right?”
This suggests Harry is willing to reconcile without an apology, although Meghan still refuses to return.
The couple faced criticism recently over their Netflix docuseries, accused of attacking the royals. Several bombshells, including claims of leaks and briefings, left Harry’s family “deeply upset.”
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said the series made reconciliation “extremely unlikely in the foreseeable future.”
Scobie’s association with the couple has also prompted questions. He is co-author of “Finding Freedom,” a flattering biography on Harry and Meghan.
Scobie now claims he is not “aligned” with the Sussexes, but critics argue his books promote their narrative.
Despite the strained relations, the Sussexes’ future status remains unsettled. Removing their titles would be complex and require legislation.
Financial issues also persist around their security costs and business deals signed while still working royals.
These loose ends suggest the royal feud may continue as the Sussexes try to balance independence with retaining royal connections.
What Next For The Couple?
Harry and Meghan continue establishing themselves in America with Spotify and Netflix deals. A return to the UK seems unlikely given Meghan’s reported refusal.
Yet their enduring global fame stems from their royal links. Questions remain whether they can sustain public interest without these connections.
For now, Scobie claims the Sussexes are focused on their young family and charities. But with Harry willing to reconcile, their future rapport with the royals still hangs in the balance.
