Princess Kate’s uncle, Gary Goldsmith, has been warned by royal insiders to refrain from attacking Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in his upcoming memoir. The businessman, who is the younger brother of Kate’s mother Carole Middleton, is reportedly planning to write a book that will reveal some private family details and address the Sussexes’ criticisms of the royal family as reported by GB News.
Goldsmith, 58, has been vocal about his disapproval of Harry and Meghan’s actions in the past, calling them “muppets” and “embarrassing” on social media. He also accused them of being “hypocritical” and “ungrateful” for leaving the royal family and airing their grievances in public. He said he was “deeply disappointed” by Harry’s autobiography, Spare, which was released in January 2023 and contained many accusatory claims about his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
According to a source quoted by OK! magazine, Goldsmith is preparing to “set the record straight” with his own book, which has infuriated Harry and Meghan. The source said: “Harry wouldn’t have anticipated such a comeback from Kate’s family. He and Meghan won’t like it one bit and will be dreading the book’s release.”
The source added that Goldsmith will use the book as an opportunity to give the Middleton family “a voice”, as well as share some “private family details”. However, he will also have Carole and Kate review the manuscript before sending it to a publisher, in case any details are too shocking. The source said: “He won’t want to do anything that will embarrass them, but it could be a good way of putting a Middleton voice out there to set the record straight over some of the things Harry wrote about in Spare.”
Goldsmith, who made his fortune through his IT recruitment business, first spoke about penning a book in 2013. He said at the time that he would not divulge any information that might shame his 41-year-old niece or Prince William, but it seems he has changed his mind since then. The source said: “Gary has been talking to the press a lot lately and his comments seem to have gone down well with some people, especially his criticism of Harry and Meghan.”
Harry and Meghan have levelled a lot of criticism at Kate and William through their numerous public platforms. Meghan insinuated in her Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, that Kate and William were not “massive huggers”. She also claimed that Kate made her “cry” in her sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. Harry, on the other hand, said in his book that he felt “trapped” and “unhappy” in the royal family and that his brother and father were “trapped” too.
The royal rift has caused a lot of tension and sadness among the family members, especially Kate, who is said to be “heartbroken” by the situation. A royal expert told Closer magazine that Kate is “the perfect princess” and “never puts a foot wrong”. The expert said: “She’s always been a peacemaker and wants to see Harry and Meghan happy, but she also wants them to respect the institution and the family.”
It remains to be seen how Goldsmith’s book will affect the already strained relations between the royals and the Sussexes. The book is expected to be released later this year or early next year
