Prince Harry has reportedly made it clear that he will not return to the UK for any royal events until his father King Charles and his brother Prince William apologise to his wife Meghan Markle.
According to a report by GB News, The Duke of Sussex, who left the royal family with his wife in 2020, is said to have a list of grievances that he wants to be addressed before he reconciles with his relatives.
According to Angela Levin, a royal commentator and biographer of Prince Harry, the duke is adamant that he will not get involved with his parents, his sister-in-law Kate Middleton, or anyone else unless they apologise to Meghan profusely. Levin made the claim on GB News’ Breakfast show with Stephen Dixon and Isabel Webster on Tuesday.
Levin said that she did not know what the royal family should apologise to Meghan for, and suggested that it should be the other way around. She said that Meghan had caused a lot of trouble for the royal family, especially with her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, where she accused the palace of racism and neglect.
Levin also said that Prince Harry’s demand for an apology was unlikely to happen, and that the royal family was used to his behaviour by now. She said that it would not spoil King Charles’ 75th birthday celebrations, which are planned to be a quiet family affair later this month¹.
The Sunday Times reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had ignored invitations from Buckingham Palace to attend the birthday party at Clarence House³. However, a spokesperson for the Sussexes denied this, saying that they had received no contact from the palace about the event.
Levin said that Prince Harry’s attendance at the birthday party would only ruin the atmosphere, as he would start pointing fingers and accusing his family of mistreating him and his wife. She said that the duke had a long list of complaints that dated back to his childhood, and that he wanted to go through them one by one and get an apology for each one.
Levin also said that Prince Harry was unlikely to attend the coronation of his father in May next year, unless he received an apology from the royal family before then. She said that the coronation was a very important occasion for the monarchy, and that it would be a shame if Prince Harry missed it.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle currently live in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. They have signed lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify, and have launched their own foundation, Archewell. They have also been involved in various humanitarian and environmental causes, such as vaccine equity and mental health awareness.
The couple have not visited the UK since they stepped back from their royal duties in January 2020. Prince Harry returned briefly in April for the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip, but Meghan stayed in the US due to her pregnancy. The couple have not seen King Charles or Prince William in person since their interview with Oprah, which caused a rift in the royal family.
