Lucy Letby, is a 33-year-old neonatal nurse based in Chester, a city located near Liverpool in northern England. Letby began serving in the neonatal unit at Countess of Chester Hospital in 2011, where her job involved providing care to a wide range of babies with varying levels of support needs, as she described in a 2013 profile with the Chester Standard.
According to prosecutor Johnson, prior to January 2015, the number of deaths in the neonatal unit at Chester Hospital was not significantly different from other hospitals.
