In 2024, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to make a reappearance despite the diminishing need for their presence by the King, according to insights from a royal expert. This follows the couple’s fifth consecutive Christmas away from the Royal Family, spending the festive season more than 5,000 miles away from the UK.
According to a report by Express, contrary to their purported desire to join the royals for Christmas, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly declined an invitation to spend time at the Sandringham estate last year. Tensions between the couple and the Royal Family have escalated due to various attacks via Harry’s memoir Spare, their Netflix docuseries, and the controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
Royal author Ingrid Seward, foreseeing a continuation of the rift in 2024, remarked on the couple’s reliance on the King’s support. Despite the King needing them less, she stated, “Meghan and Harry need the King and his blessing far more than the King needs them, sadly, so I feel we will be seeing them.”
Addressing Harry’s legal matters, Seward mentioned, “We’ll certainly be seeing Harry because he’s got to reappear for some court cases.” Emphasizing Harry’s stance on security, she added, “Harry’s been very clear that he doesn’t want to come to the UK unless he has the kind of protection he expects.”
Discussing the potential reunion, Seward highlighted the King’s desire to see his son and two youngest grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, whom he hasn’t spent much time with due to the long distance. While the King reportedly invited them to Balmoral last summer, the invitation was declined.
The couple announced their decision to step down as senior working royals in early 2020, citing a desire to become financially independent. Subsequently, they relocated to the US, Meghan’s home country, where they currently reside in a nine-bedroom mansion in Montecito.
Despite the strained relations, Harry has visited the UK on multiple occasions, with Meghan choosing to stay in the US. In 2023, Harry attended the King’s Coronation, while Meghan remained in the US with their children.
As the couple navigates their post-royal life, their actions continue to be scrutinized, and predictions suggest that their public presence will persist in the coming year. The dynamics between the Sussexes and the Royal Family remain complex, with the King’s involvement expected to play a pivotal role in shaping their interactions and engagements in the future.
The evolving narrative of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle unfolds against the backdrop of their unique relationship with the Royal Family, legal challenges, and the ongoing scrutiny of their decisions and public appearances. As 2024 approaches, the question of whether their presence will continue to be a prominent feature in royal discussions remains open-ended.
