Meghan Markle has been labelled a ‘thorn’ in Prince Harry’s side by a British journalist, who claimed that the Duchess of Sussex might be the reason behind the prince’s growing rift with the royal family. Nichi Hodgson, a former dating columnist and author, said that the UK public would welcome Harry’s reunion with his family, but would never accept Meghan back into the monarchy.
According to Thenews, Hodgson made the comments on GB News, a new British news channel, where she was invited to discuss the rumours that Harry and Meghan might return to the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year. Hodgson said that Harry and Meghan had damaged their reputation and popularity in the UK by making a series of controversial moves, such as their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, their legal battles with the British press, and their lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify.
Hodgson said that Harry and Meghan had alienated themselves from the British public and the royal family by accusing the institution of racism, neglect, and isolation. She said that Harry and Meghan had shown a lack of respect and gratitude to the Queen and the Prince of Wales, who had supported them financially and emotionally. She also said that Harry and Meghan had betrayed their royal duties and their loyal fans by quitting their roles as senior royals and moving to the US.
“Meghan is a thorn in Harry’s side. She is the reason why he has fallen out with his family and his country. She is the reason why he has lost his popularity and his credibility in the UK,” Hodgson said¹. “The British public would love to see Harry back with his family, but they will never forgive Meghan for what she has done. She has tarnished the reputation and the unity of the monarchy.”
Hodgson said that Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK would not be an opportunity for reconciliation, but rather a source of tension and drama. She said that Harry and Meghan’s presence at the Queen’s Jubilee would overshadow the celebration and create a media frenzy. She also said that Harry and Meghan’s motives for returning to the UK were questionable, and that they might be seeking publicity and sympathy.
“Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK would not be a happy occasion, but a nightmare. It would cause more trouble and more resentment. It would take away the attention and the honour from the Queen, who deserves to be celebrated for her 70 years of service,” Hodgson said¹. “Harry and Meghan’s reasons for coming back are dubious. They might be looking for more exposure and more sympathy. They might be trying to repair their image and their relationship with the royal family, but it is too late for that.”
Hodgson said that Harry and Meghan should stay away from the UK and focus on their own lives and projects in the US. She said that Harry and Meghan had made their choice and had to live with the consequences. She also said that Harry and Meghan had nothing to offer to the UK or the monarchy, and that they had become irrelevant and unwanted
