Sister-in-laws Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have been at odds with each other since before the former’s wedding to Prince Harry. Now texts between the two that allegedly left one of them in tears are coming to light once again.
Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are living completely different lives now, ever since Meghan and Harry left the royal family in 2020. However, this hasn’t stopped royal fans from talking about their past skirmishes with one another.
Their infamous text exchanges over bridesmaids’ dresses before the Sussexes’ wedding have been much discussed. The claims that Meghan made Kate Middleton cry have also had fans talking about their strained relationship over the years.
Journalist Tom Bower speaks about Kate and Meghan’s disagreement over the bridesmaid’s dresses in his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors. The British writer claims Kate was “too fatigued” to deal with any disagreements over the dresses.
A point of contention was whether the bridesmaids should wear tights. Kate reportedly believed they should, as it was “royal tradition.” However, “The Californian was uninterested in royal tradition” he claims. This disagreement was followed by the duo’s argument over the length of Princess Charlotte‘s hem. Kate thought it was too short and “anyway did not fit.”
Bower claims that Meghan’s assistant and the dress fitters “witnessed” Meghan “emphatically reject” Kate’s observation. This reportedly made Kate cry.
Thanks to Prince Harry‘s 2023 memoir Spare, Meghan and Kate’s infamous texts discussing Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dresses is public knowledge now.
“Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it at home” Kate reportedly told Meghan in a text. “Right and I told you the tailor has been standing by since 8 am. Here at KP” Meghan replied further, asking if Kate could take Charlotte to have it altered as the other moms were doing.
“No all the dresses need to be remade” was Kate’s apparent response. “
I’m not sure what else to say. If the dress doesn’t fit then please take Charlotte to see Ajay. He’s been waiting all day,” Meghan said. To this, Kate apparently responded with just “Fine.”
Meghan addressed the incident in her and Harry’s 2021 interview with celebrity pal Oprah Winfrey when the latter asked about the rumors that Meghan had made Kate cry.
The Duchess, 42 claimed, “No, the reverse happened.”
She further said, “It was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something. But she owned it, and she apologized, and she brought me flowers and a note apologizing. She did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone, to just take accountability for it.”
Meghan said that the issue had occurred over issues with the flower girls’ dresses.
