A man who was found dead in a house fire in Birmingham back in May has now been identified. The victim’s name is Rodney Maurice Walker Jr., and he was 25 years old, living in Cottondale.
The incident took place on Monday, May 22, when emergency services received a report of a house fire at the 4000 Block of Old Lewisburg Road. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, along with officers from the city’s North Precinct, rushed to the scene. Sadly, the house was already engulfed in flames.
After the fire was put out, firefighters discovered the lifeless body of Rodney Walker inside the house. He was unresponsive, and the coroner pronounced him dead at 5:20 p.m. The police quickly suspected foul play, and an autopsy confirmed their suspicions. It was revealed that Walker had been shot before the fire occurred.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office used DNA analysis to identify Rodney Walker as the victim. According to his obituary, he had attended Holt High School and later the University of Alabama.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this case. The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are working to find the person or persons responsible for this tragic incident.
