A tragic incident occurred in Nottingham today, resulting in the loss of three lives, including a teenager who had previously attended Taunton School. Barnaby Webber, a 19-year-old student at the University of Nottingham, was one of the victims in a series of attacks in the city.
Reports indicate that Barnaby, described as a talented sportsman, was walking home from a night out with a friend when the attack took place. A man has been arrested and is currently in police custody. According to a fellow female student living in the same residence hall, Barnaby and the other student who lost their life were just moments away from reaching home when they were fatally injured by the attacker.
The two students tragically lost their lives in separate incidents that are believed to be connected. Another man in his 50s was also killed. The attack left three other individuals injured, with one man currently in critical condition, seemingly struck by a van.
Police were alerted to the first incident on Ilkeston Road in Nottingham at approximately 4 am. Two 19-year-olds were found dead at the scene. Later, on Magdala Road, a man in his 50s was fatally stabbed, and his van was apparently stolen. An hour later, the van was used in an alleged attempt to run over three people on Milton Street.
Speaking outside a police station in the city, Chief Constable Kate Meynell of Nottinghamshire Police provided some details. She stated that the initial report involved two unresponsive individuals who had been stabbed. Shortly afterward, they received another call regarding the incident on Milton Street, where the stolen van was used in an attack. One person is currently in critical condition, while two others suffered minor injuries.
The police managed to stop the van on Maple Street and detained a man suspected of murder after using a taser. Additionally, a member of the public discovered the lifeless body of the man in his 50s with knife injuries on Magdala Road.
Chief Constable Meynell emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages, and they are working to determine the motives behind the attack.
