I’m Scared for My Life!” Young Woman Breaks Down on GB News as Migrant Crossings Hit Record High: “I Don’t Feel Safe Anymore

On Good Friday alone, around 250 people crossed the English Channel and entered the UK without permission. That brought the total number of illegal crossings for the week to 2,122 and the total for this year so far to 9,350.

The government says it’s working to stop these dangerous journeys, which put lives at risk and make it harder to protect the UK’s borders.

During a discussion on GB News, a 24-year-old viewer named Georgina shared her worries. She said she’s genuinely afraid for her safety, especially when walking home at night. She mentioned that she hasn’t been personally attacked but is concerned about the things she hears in the news about violence against women, particularly involving people from other countries. Because of this, she said she constantly looks over her shoulder when walking alone.

Georgina said she feels less safe now compared to ten years ago. Back then, she could walk an hour from the train station without worry. But now, even though her job is just 35 minutes away, she often feels nervous.

When Labour MP Barry Gardiner suggested that her fear might come from media coverage of violence as well as the rise in immigration, Georgina said both things play a role—but mostly it’s because of people coming into the UK with different attitudes toward women. She believes women are treated differently depending on where someone is from.

When asked about the police in her area, which is in Essex, she said their presence and actions are “questionable,” implying that she doesn’t feel much security from them either.

New figures show that more than 9,200 people have arrived in the UK by small boats so far this year. That’s 42% more than at this time last year and 81% more than in 2023. It’s the highest number recorded between January and April since the Channel crossings crisis began in 2018.

The Home Office responded by saying they’re serious about stopping illegal crossings. They’re investing more in border security, sending more people back to their home countries, and cracking down on illegal jobs, which they say criminal gangs use to convince people to make the journey.
