Kate Middleton and her daughter, Princess Charlotte, share a profound bond. Royal expert Ingrid Seward believes Charlotte is particularly protective of her mother during Kate’s battle with cancer. Seward, speaking to Hello!, noted that 9-year-old Charlotte has taken on a caring role as Kate recovers. This was evident when they stood together on the Buckingham Palace balcony during the Trooping the Color parade in June 2024, accompanied by Prince George and Prince Louis.
Seward remarked, “Charlotte is really looking after her mum. It was touching to see her standing in front of Kate during the parade, and they kept chatting. Charlotte clearly admires her mother deeply, which is heartwarming.”
She added, “Kate and Charlotte are very close, and this bond is precious to Kate, especially since she shares a similar relationship with her own mother, Carole Middleton.” Charlotte’s supportive role has been significant for Kate’s emotional well-being during her recovery. Charlotte has always been a supportive presence within her family, often seen watching over her younger brother, Prince Louis, and gently correcting him when necessary.
Charlotte was also seen reminding Prince George to bow his head during Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, showcasing her natural inclination towards royal etiquette, likely influenced by her mother, Kate. The Princess of Wales has exemplified impeccable royal conduct since marrying Prince William in 2011, setting a standard for Charlotte to follow.
In a health update on Instagram in June 2024, Kate shared details about her cancer treatment and recovery. She wrote, “I am making good progress, but as anyone undergoing chemotherapy knows, there are good days and bad days. On bad days, you feel weak and tired and must rest. But on good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.”
She continued, “My treatment is ongoing and will last for a few more months. When I feel well enough, I enjoy engaging with school life, spending time on activities that bring me energy and positivity, and doing a bit of work from home.”
“I am learning to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself this necessary time to heal,” Kate concluded.
