Donald Trump hates ‘distorted’ portrait of himself and demands it’s taken down

Former President Donald Trump is asking Colorado to take down what he calls a “purposely distorted” painting of him hanging in the State Capitol.

“Most people don’t like bad pictures of themselves, but the one in Colorado is one of the worst I’ve ever seen,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “It was put up with other presidents by the governor. The artist also painted President Obama, and his looks great but mine looks terrible. Maybe the artist lost her skills over time.”

Trump said he would rather not have a portrait at all than have the current one on display. He also said many people from Colorado have contacted the state, asking for the painting to be changed or removed.

“I’m speaking for them, asking the very liberal Governor Jared Polis—who is very soft on crime, especially when it comes to the Tren de Aragua gang that took over parts of Aurora (we helped fix that!)—to take it down,” Trump said. “Jared should be ashamed.”

Trump was talking about the Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang that was active in Aurora, Colorado last year. Trump recently used a law called the Alien Enemies Act to deport around 300 suspected members.

The gang had reportedly taken over an apartment building, and videos online showed armed men there just before someone was shot. Trump later visited the area during his campaign and talked about the gang’s presence in the U.S.

Back in 2018, a staff member working with Colorado’s Democratic House Speaker secretly let a political activist hang a large portrait of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the spot where Trump’s portrait was supposed to be. This happened because Republicans couldn’t raise the money needed for Trump’s painting, according to 9News in Denver.

A spokesperson for Governor Polis told The Hill, “Gov. Polis was surprised to hear the President is such a fan of our State Capitol and its art. The Capitol was finished in 1901 and includes marble from Colorado and portraits of past presidents and governors. We appreciate everyone’s interest and always look for ways to improve the experience for visitors.”
