A recent surge in Channel crossings has sparked criticism of Labour’s migration policy, with some accusing the party of failing to address the issue.
According to the latest figures, 450 illegal immigrants arrived in the UK on Christmas Day alone, contributing to a 25% increase in Channel crossings since last year.
GB News presenter Patrick Christys slammed Labour’s handling of the crisis, saying: “I think Labour’s New Year’s resolution is to turn every single hotel in Britain into a base for illegal immigrants.”
Christys cited the example of the Maidenhead Holiday Inn, which has been converted into a migrant hotel with 350 rooms. He estimated that every four to five boats crossing the Channel would fill another hotel.
Home Office Minister Dame Angela Eagle claimed that 220 hotels are currently being used to house migrants, although Christys suspected the true number to be higher.
The issue has sparked concerns about public safety, with many expressing worries about the impact on local communities.
A panel discussion on GB News featuring journalist Esther Krakue, political commentator Alex Armstrong, and former Labour Minister Bill Rammell highlighted the need for a more effective deterrent to stem the flow of illegal immigrants.
Rammell defended Labour’s approach, saying the party had made progress in tackling the issue, including a 37% reduction in boat crossings on “red days” and a 30% increase in deportations.
However, others argued that more needs to be done to address the root causes of the problem and prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country in the first place.
