Trevor Engelson and Meghan Markle started dating in 2006, got married in 2011, and divorced in 2013. Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, recently shared his thoughts about her ex-husband in a new interview.
Thomas Markle, who has been estranged from Meghan for years, announced plans to leave his home in Mexico, where he has lived for ten years, and move to Southeast Asia at the age of 80.
The former Hollywood lighting director, who has faced health problems such as heart attacks and a stroke, said he wants a “fresh start” in a place with “kinder people.”
Speaking to The Mail on Sunday, he shared, “I’m ready for a change. I feel stuck and want to meet new people and experience kindness.”
Mr. Markle has chosen not to renew the lease on his current home, which holds many memories, including videos of Meghan’s first wedding to Trevor Engelson. Reflecting on Trevor, he said, “I really liked him. I don’t think he ever understood why she left him.”
Southeast Asia appeals to him because of its welcoming culture, good medical care, affordable living, and respect for older people. “I traveled there when I was younger,” he said. “The people are kind, the food is healthy, and it’s a place of beauty and culture.”
Despite his plans, the emotional impact of being estranged from his daughter remains. He has never met Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry, or his grandchildren, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3. “I want the rest of my life to be peaceful, away from all the drama,” he explained.
