Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour government is in trouble, with Express reporting that many voters now see the party as “incompetent,” “dishonest,” and “unsuccessful.” This comes just six months after Labour won a huge election victory.
Labour, which came to power in July with a big majority, promised to bring change to Britain. However, the excitement didn’t last long. The government has faced criticism over donations for items like clothes and glasses, rising illegal immigration, and unpopular policies.
One policy that upset many people was Chancellor Rachel Reeves cutting winter fuel payments for the elderly. She also introduced inheritance tax on farmers, which some say could harm family farming traditions. Labour also went back on its promise to pay compensation to 3.6 million WASPI women, leading to further anger.
According to Express a YouGov poll shows only 21% of people trust Labour to run the country, while 24% now prefer the Conservatives. This is the first time Labour has fallen behind in polls since Liz Truss was Prime Minister. Even Labour’s own supporters are unhappy, with 46% saying they expected more from the party.
The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, is also losing support. Reports say 42% of voters are disappointed in his leadership. Only 12% believe Labour has been successful, while 56% think the government is “incompetent” and “dishonest.”
Polls also show Labour could lose a lot of seats in the next election. Research by Stonehaven for The i Paper predicts Labour might drop to 278 seats, far below what’s needed to stay in power. Another poll suggests Reform UK, a rising party, could win 67 seats, while Labour may only win 228.
Reform UK is also gaining trust on issues like immigration, with 30% of voters backing them, says Express This shows many people are unhappy with Labour’s handling of key problems.
These reports suggest that Labour is losing support quickly, and the next election could bring big changes to UK politics.
