Urfan Sharif, the father of 10-year-old Sara Sharif, was reportedly attacked in his prison cell at HMP Belmarsh in South London. The incident occurred on New Year’s Day when two fellow inmates ambushed him. They used a sharp edge from a tuna tin lid as a weapon, leaving Sharif with deep cuts on his neck and face.
The injuries were so severe that Sharif was rushed to the prison’s medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment.
His condition is reported to be critical. The attack is believed to have been motivated by outrage over the crime Sharif committed against his daughter, Sara, whose tragic death shocked many.
Sara was found dead in her home in Woking, Surrey, in August 2023, with injuries suggesting prolonged abuse.
Reports revealed that she had suffered beatings, burns, and bite marks over two years before her death. Sharif and other family members fled to Pakistan after her death but were later arrested upon their return to the UK.
This recent attack on Sharif has sparked concern over safety within prisons, particularly for inmates involved in high-profile cases. Authorities at HMP Belmarsh are investigating the incident, and the attackers may face further charges for their actions.
