journalist Isabel Oakeshott expressed disbelief and frustration over London Mayor Sadiq Khan being awarded a knighthood in Keir Starmer’s New Year’s Honors List During a live broadcast on Talk Tv News, . She questioned what achievements Khan could possibly be rewarded for, citing rising knife crime, worsening street conditions, and the decline of London’s nightlife as major failures under his leadership.
Oakeshott stated that knife crime in London has surged by 50% since Khan took office in 2016, leaving many residents and visitors feeling unsafe. “The once-magnificent capital is now plagued with crime, dirty streets, and a general sense of decline,” she said. She also noted that visitors from abroad often express shock at London’s current state.
Another point of criticism was Khan’s alleged role in the “death of nightlife” in London. Oakeshott lamented the restrictive alcohol licensing policies and the impact of initiatives like 20 mph zones and expanded Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZ), which she said have caused traffic chaos and hurt businesses.
“London has so much potential,” Oakeshott added, “but instead of showcasing the city’s rich history and vibrant culture, Khan pours resources into divisive woke initiatives.”
Discussing the political implications, Oakeshott speculated whether the knighthood was Starmer’s way of neutralizing Khan as a potential rival for Labour leadership. “If Sadiq Khan has his eye on the top job, opposition parties would be delighted. He’s not exactly a politically threatening figure,” she said, adding that Khan is a divisive politician who relies on pandering to specific groups for support.
Oakeshott also criticized Khan’s past remarks labeling some protesters as “far-right.” She argued that such language alienates ordinary people. “Leaders like Khan insult ordinary citizens who dare to question their policies, and it’s no wonder support for traditional parties is dwindling,” she said.
