It might be hard to believe, but all dogs, including chihuahuas and basset hounds, are actually related to wolves. Over many years, humans have helped change their genes, turning them into the different dog breeds we see today. We all love dogs, right? Well, Hayden is no different.
One day, Hayden came home and noticed something strange. Her dog, Jackson, had unusual marks on his skin that made her stop in her tracks. At first, she wasn’t sure what they were, but she knew she needed to check it out more closely. As she looked at Jackson, she began to worry. The marks seemed odd and out of place, so she decided to take him to the vet to figure out what was going on.
When they arrived at the vet, Hayden was already feeling concerned. She thought the marks on Jackson’s skin could be bug bites, something common dogs get from time to time. But when she looked more carefully, she realized it wasn’t just a few bumps. Jackson didn’t have small, raised areas on his skin like she expected. Instead, he had actual holes in his skin. It wasn’t just one or two holes – there were a lot of them.
This discovery made Hayden even more worried, and she immediately took Jackson to the vet. The more they looked at him, the more Hayden began to feel like something was terribly wrong. She couldn’t believe what the vet would say next. When the vet told her that the marks weren’t bug bites at all, Hayden was shocked. The problem was much bigger than she had imagined, and she was left feeling stunned and scared for her dog.
There were indeed holes in Jackson’s skin, and the reason behind it was horrifying. Jackson had been shot multiple times. When the vet began working on him, carefully shaving his fur to get to the wounds, they found 20 pellets and 7 BBs lodged in his body.
Hayden was completely shocked. She had no idea what was really happening when she first saw the strange marks on Jackson, thinking they were just bug bites. But as the vet continued the examination, it became clear that the problem was far worse than she ever imagined.
The discovery was hard to process. Not only were there holes in Jackson’s flesh from the gunshots, but the vet also estimated that there were at least 20 more pellets and BBs stuck inside Jackson’s body that couldn’t be removed. To make matters even worse, the vet said that another 20 projectiles had hit Jackson but bounced off. That meant Jackson had been shot over 60 times in total.
“I was in shock, I didn’t even know what to think,” Hayden said, recalling the moment. The cruel and shocking truth left her completely stunned, and she struggled to understand how anyone could do something so terrible to her beloved dog.
Hayden wasn’t the only one shocked by the cruel act of violence against Jackson. When the police were called, they, too, were stunned by what had been done to the dog. The officers found BBs stuck in a nearby tree and followed the trail to figure out the direction of fire.
Their investigation led them to the house next door, which belonged to 44-year-old Tim. The police obtained a search warrant for his home, and when they searched it, they found not only a BB gun and pellets but also methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Tim was arrested on drug charges, while the police waited for test results to confirm whether the gun and pellets found at his house were the same ones used to harm Jackson. This would help build their case of animal cruelty against him.
As for Jackson, the good news was that he was expected to make a full recovery, despite the terrible ordeal he had gone through. It was a heartbreaking situation, but the hope was that Jackson would heal, and justice would be served.
