A man who sexually assaulted a woman while she was asleep has been sent to prison.
Yousef Camara, 24, was staying at the home of two young women who had kindly allowed him to stay over. Even though they made a bed for him, Camara, from Broad Lane, took advantage of their hospitality and attacked one of the women while she slept, according to the Bradford Crown Court.
In July, Camara was found guilty of sexual assault by penetration. The judge, Jonathan Gibson, mentioned that the victim was especially vulnerable because she was asleep when the assault happened.
Camara’s lawyer, Paul Canfield, said his client had been through difficult experiences, including losing a friend and facing racism. The lawyer also mentioned that Camara was attacked while in custody last week.
Although the victim did not submit a personal statement, the judge said she had been very upset by the assault. Camara was sentenced to five years in prison, plus an additional two weeks because he missed an earlier court hearing in January.
As part of his punishment, Camara will spend two-thirds of his sentence in jail, and he will also be registered as a sex offender for life. Additionally, he is not allowed to contact the victim due to a restraining order that will last indefinitely.
