The 45-year-old Radio 1 presenter, who ran the London Marathon in 2017 and 2018 for the mental health charity Heads Together, first met Kate during a 2017 interview about the event, according to GB News.
After being diagnosed with stage 2 bowel cancer in October 2021, she spoke highly of Kate and Prince William, calling them “amazing.”
The royal couple later reached out again after hearing that Roberts was in remission, sending her a personal letter to acknowledge the impact of her story.
Roberts expressed that she hopes her journey may have helped Kate, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and has completed chemotherapy.
She shared with The Mirror: “It’s strange to think that when I met William and Kate, none of us knew what was ahead of us.
“I ran the marathon in 2017 and 2018 for their mental health charity, not knowing what the future held.
“But now, we’re all connected in a way through our experiences.
“They were incredibly supportive when I was first diagnosed, and when I went into remission, they wrote to me, saying: ‘Thank you for sharing your story; it’s going to inspire and help so many others.’ They were so thoughtful.
“Seeing Catherine share her own experience just proves that they genuinely care, as she didn’t have to share her story but chose to.
“Perhaps in some small way, knowing about what I went through helped Catherine. I’m not sure.
“I hope it did. I haven’t reached out because I understand how overwhelming it can be when going through something like this.
“Catherine was likely dealing with a lot, without needing extra communication.
“But it’s wonderful to see how she’s faced everything and shared her journey.”
Roberts also mentioned that she considers herself a cancer thriver rather than just a survivor.
