King Charles shared an emotional message while receiving treatment for cancer.
On September 21, Buckingham Palace released the King’s message to honor the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden. The King said, “Eighty years ago, this weekend, Operation Market Garden took place in this part of the Netherlands.”
“It was a big operation where airborne and ground forces worked together to capture key bridges, hoping to move into Germany and end the war in just a few months.” He added, “Today, on this 80th anniversary, we are deeply grateful and humbled as we remember all the brave soldiers from Britain, the Allies, and Commonwealth who fought and died for our freedom.”
“Let us also remember the brave members of the Dutch resistance and the civilians who suffered so much during World War II.”
In his message, the King also said that the “heroism and sacrifice of so many in the fight for peace and freedom” will never be forgotten.
King Charles and Queen Camilla also sent their “warmest good wishes” to everyone involved in the weekend’s commemoration.
