Prince Harry won’t be getting a big payout on his 40th birthday in September if his brother, Prince William, had his way. Prince William, who is 42, reportedly wishes that Harry, the Duke of Sussex, wouldn’t receive millions of dollars “without doing any work” when he turns 40 on September 15, 2024.
This birthday is significant for Harry. Not only is he reaching a new stage in life, but he will also get access to millions left to him by his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. She passed away in 2002 and set up a $90 million trust fund for her great-grandchildren. However, she made it clear that the money couldn’t be accessed until they turned 40. So, on September 15, when Harry turns 40, he is expected to receive about $8.5 million.
This amount is said to be slightly more than what William got when he received his share in 2022. The reason, according to royal expert Christopher Andersen, is that William is the future king. The Queen Mother knew that William would inherit over $1 billion from the Duchy of Cornwall when he became the Prince of Wales, which happened in September 2022. A source told Closer that William isn’t happy about Harry getting millions more. The reason? William thinks Harry didn’t earn it.
“William is pretty upset that Harry will be taking millions back to his home in Montecito without working for it,” the insider said. “There’s nothing William can do about it except shake his head. But if it were up to him, Harry wouldn’t get this money.”
The source also said that William opposed Harry getting his share of their great-grandmother’s trust fund. But legally, William couldn’t stop it because the Queen Mother specifically left the money to Harry. “William doesn’t think his brother deserves this money,” the source added. “He’s making it clear that he thinks the situation is unfair.”
Apparently, William isn’t the only one unhappy about Harry receiving this money. The insider suggested that Harry’s sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, also dislikes the idea.
The reason is because of a breakdown in trust between William and Kate and Harry and Meghan Markle. “William and Kate don’t trust Harry or Meghan at all,” the insider said. “So the thought of Harry benefiting from his great-grandmother’s inheritance leaves a bad feeling for them.”
