Tensions escalated during the Apprentice Boys Relief of Derry parade in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, when a group of nationalist teens attacked police with petrol bombs. The incident occurred late on Saturday night near the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall, following the peaceful conclusion of the parade earlier in the day.
Video footage shared widely on social media shows the teens throwing petrol bombs at police vehicles, resulting in a police Land Rover catching fire. According to reports, up to 50 youths were involved in the unrest, which also saw fireworks and stones being thrown at police lines in the Nailors Row area. The police have described the situation as presenting a “serious risk” to the safety of residents in the area.
In response to the violence, local politicians, including Sinn Féin councillor Sandra Duffy, have condemned the attacks, calling for calm and urging young people to avoid getting involved in such dangerous activities. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has arrested several individuals on suspicion of public disorder offenses and continues to investigate the incident to prevent further escalation.
