In March, the Princess of Wales, formerly known as Kate Middleton, announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer and was receiving preventive chemotherapy. People were unsure when she would return to her royal duties.
In June, she posted an update on social media, saying she would attend the Trooping the Colour for her father-in-law King Charles’ birthday. Kate shared on Instagram that she was making progress, but noted that chemotherapy comes with both good and bad days.
On bad days, she feels weak and tired, needing to rest. On good days, she tries to make the most of feeling well. Her treatment will continue for a few more months, but she was looking forward to the king’s birthday parade. She also expressed hope to attend more public events over the summer.
On July 14, Kate made her second public appearance at the Wimbledon Men’s Final with her daughter, Princess Charlotte, and her sister, Pippa Middleton. She received a warm welcome from the crowd, and a professional lip reader, Jeremy Freeman, revealed what Kate said as she was cheered.
According to Freeman, Kate asked Charlotte to “come over here” when they reached their seats in the Royal Box. She thanked the person who accompanied them, waved to the crowd, and said “hi” to the spectators. She also told the lady next to her that the ovation was “so sweet.”
For their outing, Kate wore a purple Safiyaa dress with gold jewelry and a cream handbag. Pippa wore a caped Beulah midi dress with a ribbon at the waist, the same dress she wore to their brother James Middleton’s wedding, and accessorized with a suede envelope clutch. Charlotte wore a navy blue polka-dot Guess dress with ballet flats and a blue bow in her hair.
A photo of them enjoying the match was posted on the princess’s Instagram with a caption that read: “Great to be back at Wimbledon! There’s nothing quite like The Championships.”
