Prince William and the Princess of Wales (formerly Kate Middleton) meet many people whenever they are out in public or attending royal events. They are experienced in handling different questions and situations in public.
So, what did Prince William do when a lady named Betty wanted to kiss him? And what did Kate say about it? A video of the princess’s reaction has gone viral.
The viral video on TikTok shows a Zoom call William and Kate had with actors Emma Stone and Emma Thompson about the 2021 movie Cruella.
The video starts with William sharing a playful story about meeting a woman, saying: “I got asked for a kiss by a 96-year-old lady named Betty yesterday.” Kate then joked: “This is what happens when I’m not around!”
The TikTok video then shows several clips of Kate. It has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times with over 78,000 views and more than 200 comments.
William explained that he met Betty Magee, who lives in a care home, and they chatted over ice cream. Betty said: “It’s customary here to give a lady a kiss on the cheek.”
The prince responded: “Betty, if I … nah … I might get in trouble for being inappropriate, with social distancing … you are sweet. You’ll make me blush. When the rules relax, I will come back and give you a kiss on the cheek.”
Many commenters praised the couple’s cuteness and also admired Kate’s voice.
“I went crazy for Kate’s voice,” one user wrote, while another said, “Her voice is amazing.”
A third person posted: “She usually speaks softly, but in these Zoom calls, we hear her normal voice & it’s so attractive.”
Others mentioned the “rasp” in her voice, writing: “The Rasp LAWD” and “I felt the rasp in my gut.”
William has been without Kate for several months as she’s been undergoing treatment. She made her first public appearance after her cancer diagnosis during Trooping the Colour for King Charles’s birthday celebration but mentioned that she’s “not out of the woods yet.”
In a social media message, the Princess of Wales wrote: “My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on things that give me energy and positivity, and start to do some work from home … I hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but I am not out of the woods yet.”
