A man from Dagenham assaulted and raped a woman after she refused his sexual advances. To escape, the woman jumped out of a ground floor window and onto the street.

Oladip Oshodi, 48, made unwanted sexual advances toward a woman he knew at his house in Mayesbrook, Dagenham. Despite the woman’s clear refusal, Oshodi raped her twice that night.

He also beat her, and in a desperate attempt to get away, she jumped out of the window. Once on the street, she collapsed and was helped by passersby. The police were called, and she was taken to the hospital for treatment. Oshodi was arrested the next day in July and has been in custody since then.

PC Kayleigh Grafton, a specialist officer who helps victims of sexual crimes, said: “The survivor in this case was fleeing for her life when she jumped onto the street to escape this man.” She hopes that Oshodi’s sentence will encourage other victims of sexual crimes to come forward, assuring them of support and safety.

On Friday, July 5, Oshodi was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court to 25 years in prison for two counts of rape, administering a harmful substance, threats to kill, grievous bodily harm, and controlling coercive behavior.
