A female prison officer at HMP Wandsworth has been arrested following the emergence of a viral video. The video, which appears to show the officer engaged in sexual activity with an inmate, was allegedly filmed inside a cell and has been widely circulated online.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that an investigation was launched on June 28th after officers were made aware of the video. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and is currently in police custody. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities maintaining close contact with the Ministry of Justice.
This incident comes as another blow to HMP Wandsworth, which has been plagued by security issues. In September last year, the prison made headlines when inmate Daniel Khalife escaped in a daring fashion, though he was eventually recaptured. This latest scandal only adds to the prison’s troubled reputation.
A spokesperson for the prison service commented, “Staff corruption is not tolerated. The former prison officer allegedly featured in this video has been reported to the police. It would be inappropriate to comment further while the investigation is ongoing.”
The Ministry of Justice and the Metropolitan Police are working diligently to resolve this matter and ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.
