According to a discussion on TalkTV, the search for missing teenager Jay Slater has now entered its 12th day. Jay’s mother, Debbie, remains hopeful despite police stating that it is unlikely Jay will be found alive.
Jay disappeared in the mountainous regions of Tenerife. This area is known for its harsh, dry landscape, which makes it very hard to search. The police believe Jay might not have survived if he stayed in the mountains. However, there are other ideas about what might have happened. Some think a local person might have taken him in, or that he could have been kidnapped.
Debbie has raised £40,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to support the search efforts. She plans to use the money in three ways: to help the rescue teams working to find Jay, to bring more supporters and loved ones to Tenerife, and to cover accommodation and food costs for those who need to stay longer to help with the search.
In the last six months, about 11 people have gone missing in Tenerife and have not been found. Locals say that because the landscape is so tough and large, it can take months to find missing people. There are even cases from the 1980s where British people went missing and were never found.
Additionally, some TikTok users have traveled to Tenerife to join the search. They are sharing their efforts with their followers. One TikTok user, Paul Arnott, has about 153,000 followers and has shared 66 videos about the search for Jay. He claims that he met Jay’s family and that they support his efforts. However, experts warn that these amateur searchers can sometimes cause more problems than help.
