King Charles III has mostly followed the actions of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, regarding Prince Andrew, who has been called a “constant embarrassment.” However, the King might not want to take further actions against his “baby brother” to avoid “public shaming” for the 64-year-old prince.
After settling a sexual abuse case with accuser Virginia Giuffre in 2022, Prince Andrew, who is eighth in line to the British throne, lost his public duties and his taxpayer-funded Metropolitan Police protection. His connection with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein led to these consequences, and he also resisted further cuts, such as being asked to leave the Royal Lodge in Windsor. Despite these issues, he still holds onto his HRH title for private use and remains a member of the Order of the Garter, the UK’s highest order of chivalry.
In an interview with The Sun’s Matt Wilkinson, royal expert Richard Palmer explained why he thinks the King won’t remove this title from Prince Andrew. Palmer said he wasn’t sure about the legal process of removing Andrew’s titles and styles but believed it would be very difficult for the King to publicly shame his brother in that way. He added that while Andrew’s situation is a constant embarrassment for the King and the royal family, it is unlikely that the King will take further action.
Meanwhile, Prince Andrew’s daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, are continuing with their usual activities despite the release of Netflix’s new film about Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein, titled “Scoop.” The movie portrays a fictionalized version of the events surrounding the Duke of York’s disastrous 2019 interview with Newsnight’s Emily Maitlis.
Style expert Marian Kwei mentioned that Beatrice and Eugenie will use their fashion choices to show that it is “business as usual” as the Netflix film is released. Kwei noted that their style will convey that they are relatable and in touch with the public. For example, Princess Eugenie recently wore a short black satin dress with a cardigan and vegan trainers at the Hong Kong convention center, showing their awareness of current trends like sustainability.
The film, “Scoop,” is already making headlines and features Beatrice in a supporting role played by actress Charity Wakefield. The cast also includes Gillian Anderson as Emily Maitlis, Rufus Sewell as the Duke of York, and Colin Wells as Jeffrey Epstein.
